I've looked for a Log Home specialist in Virginia for a very long time; I'm thrilled to find Steve & his company. The crew is professional, respectful, on time and hard workers. I especially enjoyed working with Freddy. While not an inexpensive job, worth the cost. Excellent job preparing/protecting the windows & gutters before Media blasting; applying borate treatment; spraying & sealing existing bee holes; applying primer, then 2 coats of stain, followed by clear coat. We contacted this company about a full log restoration on our 40-year old log home. Steve scheduled a meeting, arrived on time, and was professional, easy to talk with and spoke in easy to understand layman's terms. He promptly gave us a reasonable price and estimated start date. The crew arrived promptly and ready to work every day. They were courteous, friendly and very hard-working. They maintained a clean and organized work area, cleaning up after themselves each day. The final result was an unbelievably beautiful restoration, with no construction 'mess' left behind. This was a 'painless' experience and would do it again.

Wow! I have never been more impressed with a company. Being a new owner of a log cabin, I called with a lot of concerns regarding the condition of my home. Steve, the founder and owner, answered my call and spent the next 45 minutes educating me on the ins and outs of log cabin maintenence. He took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly, recommend products, and look at pictures of my home and original stain can (label mostly worn off but Steve knew exactly what it was). He is so kind, helpful, knowledgable, and trustworthy. He graciously shared his advice without pressuring or hustling me. It is evident that he has a passion and love for log homes, even living in one himself. He earned my appreciation, trust, respect, and business! I highly recommend this company for any of your log home needs.

We purchased a 200 year old log cabin this summer that was in need of an outside restoration. Steve honored the previous owner's quote and was even able to do the job this Fall. Freddy and his crew showed up on time every day, worked hard (even during some cold rainy days), and did an excellent job. They made sure the area was cleaned up and were very professional. Any questions we had were answered quickly and thoroughly and Steve's suggestions for stain colors was exactly right. We are very happy with the outcome. Wow, these reviews pretty much say it all. I don’t have much to add other than that SLHR is still just as good in October 2022. Our home had been neglected to the point that it was going to take a large investment to get it restored, material blasting and all. Steve, Freddie, and their team made that investment feel like a bargain. At every step from the initial consultation to the final cleanup they instilled confidence in their knowledge, skill, professionalism, and dedication. Every one of them clearly enjoys the work and takes pride in doing it right, down to the smallest detail. And it shows in the stunning transformation of the house. Now that our home is back in shape we’ll be sure to get on SLHR’s regular maintenance cycle.

Where does one start a great review when all the services provided were exceptional? During the initial meeting with Steve for an estimate I realized I was talking to a contractor who was passionate about log home restorations, and most of all he knew how to express to the customer what work needed to be done, why it was needed and the long-term benefits of the proposed work. Steve’s estimate, and statement of work was the most thorough and precise of all three contractors I pursued. The crew that performed the “hands-on” work were very polite, always conscious of the homeowner’s privacy, and they are true “master craftsman.” Can you imagine the workers hand brushing on the materials, yes by hand over the entire surface of my 3,500 sq. ft. log home? There were no shortcuts taken. Steve always kept me informed when the workers (Freddie, Rocco, Pedro, and Misael) would be onsite – especially when pending inclement weather would cause a work delay. To sum up, after contacting three different contractors (which all homeowners should do) Steve’s bid was the most precise, thorough, and he stood by every clause within the contract. I most highly recommend Shenandoah Log Home Restoration!

I contacted Shenandoah Log Home Restoration and Construction after I received a very high estimate from a competitor. I had purchased a 28 year old log home that was in need of washing, staining, and sealing. I had a tremendous number of carpenter bee holes from previous years. Steve gave me a very fair estimate and I scheduled the work which they completed late in 2018. The whole team were very professional, polite and knowledgeable giving me advice about how to preserve the finish for as long as possible. The team worked very hard and the finished product (a clean, shiny log home) is fantastic. I again requested the team to come and do some spring cleaning of the finish in April 2019 and was not disappointed. They again came early (my request) and worked around my situation (a litter of puppies) to do the cleaning. Then Carlos came in and sealed an area of an interior wall closet that I noticed was windy during the winter. Above the call of duty and certainly appreciated!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Steve and his whole team to anyone who needs to get their home in shape or wants to construct a log home.

The scope of my project was to clean our logs and siding, take a few logs/boards back to bare wood as the Sikkens stain had peeled on them and then recoat with Sikkens Log and Siding and Sikkens Clear Topcoat.

I am an engineer and I had been cleaning and recoating my Lindal flat planed log home since iwe built in 1987. I was somewhat concerned that a contractor would not take the time and effort to be meticulous in the application of the Sikkens stain, which takes more effort than regular stain as it cannot be overlapped because it is really a clear paint and overlaps show.

I want to say that this team far surpassed my expectations of precision and care in the cleaning and staining of our home! The results are absolutely beautiful with every surface covered and no stain on things that should not have stain. The gutters and downspouts were removed to allow complete coverage and then expertly re-installed. And other than a beautiful and gleaming house and garage you could not even tell that they had been there as their site cleanup was perfect.

The crew of Carlos, Dominic and Jonathan are great folks to work with and I truly enjoyed their company. We had some great conversations. They always kept me fully informed of their progress and what their next steps would be. They worked quickly but with great care. I had complete trust with my home being in their care while they were there.

Working with Steve on the business side was so easy. We had discussions on the scope and everything was presented clearly. As scheduling and planning occurred it was a pleasure to work with someone who is truly engaged with the service that they are offering and he went above and beyond to make sure his customer was happy.

Prompted by their postcard introduction, we reached out to Shenandoah Log Home Restoration (SLHR) and learned about their process in renewing a home’s beauty by restoring the wood’s surface from the effects of time and environment. Assured that SLHR applied the highest quality stain on the market and their work teams were skilled, experienced, trustworthy and professional, we proceeded to contract, hoping SLHR would meet expectations.

Our experience with Shenandoah was very positive, beginning with the initial meet and evaluation of our home’s condition, to the attentive, quality workmanship and team performance, through personal connection with management individuals, to the exceptional restoration and beautiful end result.

One specific factor that enhanced our decision with SLHR was the owner’s commentary regarding his work teams, wherein he noted his ‘respect’ for their skills and talents, team support, and their interaction with the customer. I highly recommend Shenandoah Log Home Restoration. I’ve had my home cleaned/stained twice over the past 7 years, neither of those came even close to the quality and attention to detail that Steve, John and his crew gave to my home. It has never looked better. You can definitely find cheaper estimates but trust me, you will be disappointed. These guys didn’t take any short-cuts, no power washing, hand scrubbed the entire home, and we have a pretty big log home! Did not work when conditions weren’t favorable for the staining, this is a BIG thing, many companies will just go ahead and stain when the logs are too moisture laden. These guys use a moisture meter to verify moisture levels at many points around the home. Workmanship, professionalism, cleanliness, and communication as to what is going on and what to expect were top notch all the way. I’ll definitely have these guys back.
